How this site works
This site contains most of the time-sensitive material from the print version of the quarterly Old English Newsletter, and a growing archive of material from back issues. We hope it will be a convenient and useful stopping-of point for students and teachers who want to keep up with the changing world of Anglo-Saxon studies. News, notices of publication, reports and essays are updated frequently.
Most of the materials that appear on this site are stored as plain text files, which are converted to HTML when they are displayed on the screen. This allows the editors to update existing material and add new material quickly and easily. The text files rely on a handful of symbols to indicate formatting; these symbols have been adapted from the excellent plain-text formatting tool ‘Markdown’ at Daring Fireball, which in turn owes a lot to the formatting of plain-text emails.
You can see an example of this plain-text markup by viewing the text file for this page in its original form: http://www.oenewsletter.org/OEN/info/contact.txt.
