Changes at the Old English Newsletter
The Old English Newsletter is in its fortieth year of providing news, reports, resources and ideas for Anglo-Saxon studies. I am proud of the work our contributors and editors have done, grateful for the support and patience of our subscribers, and excited about the new developments we are planning for the years ahead.
The most important of these new developments is that OEN has moved to a new publishing home in the English Department of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Paul Szarmach, who heroically dedicated himself to this publication as editor, publisher, and financial wizard for thirty years, has begun a five-year tenure as Executive Director of the Medieval Academy of America. We applaud this well-deserved honor, and wish him great success in his new position. His absence will be deeply felt by our readers and by all those who have worked with the Newsletter over the years.
This period of change at OEN is an appropriate time to examine the publication’s purpose, consider its form and structure, and imagine new directions for its future. If you are reading this, you are already aware of one very significant change, the creation of an online companion to the print edition of OEN. We are working hard to make this site, and the online OEN Bibliography Database, useful resources for scholars and students, and to keep OEN thriving for the next forty years. We welcome your feedback and suggestions on ways to improve the site; your comments will help determine the future shape of OEN. Feel free to contact the editor, Roy Liuzza, at editor@oenewsletter.org.
Subscribers should now mail their renewals to OEN’s new address; a subscription form can be found here (the form is in .pdf format and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, freely available from Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html). We would be grateful if subscribers would remember to notify us of any change in address — because OEN is mailed at the least expensive rate possible, it is not always forwarded by the Post Office when you move. An online form for address changes can be found by clicking the About OEN link at left.
