Welcome to this online version of the quarterly Old English Newsletter. Since 1967, OEN has been a source for news, announcements, and information on the world of Anglo-Saxon studies. Its annual Bibliography and Year’s Work in Old English Studies are used by thousands of scholars worldwide.
This site makes much of the content of OEN easily and quickly accessible. Click on one of the index tabs on the left; each section has some additional enhancements over the print version:
- News and Announcements contains information from the current print issue of OEN. but also presents new announcements which reached us too late for the last issue or too soon for the next. The list automatically omits listings for events whose deadlines have passed; these can be retrieved if desired.
- New Publications lists recent books on Anglo-Saxon topics. Individual notices contain links to publishers’ web sites; the page also has a link to reviews in the online Medieval Review.
- Reports contains project reports printed in OEN, as well as a searchable version of recent “Research in Progress” reports.
- Essays can be read on-screen or downloaded as .pdf files for better clarity and quality. These may be reproduced for classroom or personal use.
- Conference Abstracts is a searchable database of over 1,600 abstracts of papers read at scholarly conferences from 1998 to the present.
- Archive list Reports and Essays by issue, title, or author; it currently covers Volumes 34-39.
- Links contains the list of new online resources published annually in OEN as “Circolwyrde,” as well as a selection of links to various sites with a special focus on library catalogues, centers and organizations, and digitized manuscripts.
- About OEN contains contact information, guides to using and citing articles on the site, a list of OEN Subsidia volumes, information on subscribing to OEN, and a form for changing your subscription address.
- OEN Bibliography Database links to the searchable archiveof the annual OEN Bibliography from 1973 to 2003 — more than 19,000 items and 5,000 reviews, updated annually. Access to the database is free, but registration is required; see the site itself for more details.
